Self-managed team is the core principle of agile ways of working, and self-management needs equal participation from all team members. It is not necessary to have a qualified facilitator to enable self-management within the team, but effective facilitation is needed to ensure equal participation from everyone. In fact, Scrum masters playing the role of facilitator every time can be considered anti-pattern as it creates a dependency on them. It is important that everyone in the agile team have knowledge and experience in facilitation.
